Big move for Sundar Pichai as he is named the new Alphabet CEO

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been named as the new CEO of Alphabet Inc, Google's parent company. Pichai will replace Google founder Larry Page at the top level who has been at the helm of affairs since Google's inception 21 years ago.

"While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it's time to assume the role of proud parents — offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!" Page and Brin wrote in a blog post on Tuesday.

Page, his partner Sergey Brin and Pichai have all a shared goal of developing artificial intelligence in a way that will make web searching and similar tasks much faster and efficient. Pichai over the last few years has strived to make such AI-related technology available globally.

Alphabet. Inc owns more than a dozen companies including Google which are experts in various domains such as self-driving car technology business Waymo and health care software company Verily.

Pichai has been working at Google for the past 15 years and rose the ranks while leading the development of Google' s Chrome browser. He also led product development and engineering across various verticles in Google before becoming the CEO of the tech giant in 2015.
