Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the opposition parties need not feel discouraged and because of their weak numbers in house and that NDA will respect everyone and ensure that everyone's opinion is heard and considered. Modi said so addressing the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha.
The BJP led NDA has a strength of 353 MPs in the Lok Sabha out of which BJP alone has 303 MPs. Congress, which is the main opposition has only 53 MPs. DMK is the third largest party in the lower house with 23 MPs while YSRCP with 22 and Shiv Sena with 18 MPs are other significant contributors to the house strength.
"The role of an opposition and an active opposition is important in a Parliamentary democracy. The opposition need not bother about their numbers. Whatever numbers opposition parties may have got from the people, we will take their every word seriously. I hope they speak actively and participate in house proceedings," said Modi.
Modi's words are an extension of his statement made yesterday at the all party where he asked all the parties to leave aside their differences and work for a common goal of having a fruitful Parliament session and ensure the people of the nation benefit from these debates. The session which will end on July 26 will see some key billa being discussed in the house such as Triple Talak Bill and Aadhar Bill which aims at promoting Aadhar as an id proof for opening bank accounts and also linking it to the phone connections. Union Budget will also be presented during this session and is scheduled on July 5th
