The ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has reportedly offered the post of Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha to YSRCP, which won 22 seats in the recently concluded General Elections in India.
BJP MP and Spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao met Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy in a closed-door discussion that lasted 30 minutes and made the offer. BJP leaders termed the meeting as a courtesy call however, it has raised serious speculations that a YSRCP candidate might be offered the post in the 17th Lok Sabha.
YSRCP sources, however, confirmed that such an offer has been made and the party has sought for time to accept the offer as they are concerned about the message it would send to the Christians and Muslims in the state. Rao, however, maintained that the visit to CM residence was just to congratulate him on his victory and no political topics were discussed and that the post of Deputy Speaker will be offered to whomever party chooses.
This meeting has made the situation quite interesting as just a few days ago, Shiv Sena- BJP's long time ally had made indications of their interest in the post. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had claimed that the Deputy Speaker post was the 'natural claim' and the 'right' of the party.
