'YSR Vahana Mitra'- A scheme for auto and cab owners launched in AP

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy launched 'YSR Vahana Mitra' a welfare scheme in Eluru, West Godavari district aimed to benefit auto and cab drivers who also own the vehicles. YSR Vahana Mitra would be providing an annual cash incentive of Rs 10,000 the owners of these transport vehicles.

Incidentally, this is a poll promise that Jagan made in the same town during his Padayatra. The amount is meant to obtain insurance and other vehicle fitness certificates along with maintenance expenses for the vehicles.

"With the daily earnings of Rs 200 to Rs 500, you people have told me that it was becoming difficult to run the family and meet other vehicle expenses. The YSR Vahana Mitra scheme will provide Rs 50,000 to self-employed drivers in the next five years," said Jagan, addressing a gathering of auto and cab drivers.

The state government has also announced that the applications for the scheme would be extended till the end of the month, for those who could not apply on time, while those who have newly obtained vehicles can avail the scheme in November.

While the transport department expected a minimum of 4 lakh beneficiaries for the scheme, the applications turned out to be fewer than expected. The department received a total of 1,75, 352 applications out of which 1,73, 102 qualified as beneficiaries for the scheme.
