Woman sends hoax messages to AP government, arrested

A woman in Andhra Pradesh warned CM and other officials about a bomb threat, which was fake and was arrested on Wednesday. With a stolen SIM, she sent messages to CM and other security officials a bomb hoax last week. She shot messages to a dozen officials and political personalities including CM Chandrababu Naidu and opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy. She warned of bombs in EVM strong rooms and a bank.

As elections in AP were held on April 11th as part of the first phase of general elections, the issue of the strong rooms assumed greater significance as they have to be guarded till May 23rd.

If we go into the reasons why did the woman do this thing, a police officer in Anakapalle of AP's Visakhapatnam district, the objective of the woman was revenge. She was an activist in a public poverty alleviation initiative. The beneficiaries in the schemes she is dealing with did not get the scheme amounts due to nonpayment of previous loans. Miffed at the way the women were denied the benefits, she sought revenge on officials and government and used a mobile phone that was bought with the wrong address and a stolen SIM card and carried out the hoax calls.

Police filed cases of theft and forgery as well as under IT act sections on the woman. She will be presented in Court on Thursday.

Thursday, April 25.
