With just a day to go for the commencement of the operations of village secretariat on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy handed over the appointment letters to some of the selected candidates in Vijayawada.
Overall 1.26 lakh people have been appointed for the various village and ward secretariats which as per government with help in smoothening the grassroot level governance. A total of 11,158 village secretariats will come into existence across the state on October 2. Similarly, 3,809 ward secretariats will start functioning in 110 municipalities.
The state government said that the purpose of these local bodies is to deliver transparent, accountable and corruption-free services to the people and become a force to emulate for the whole nation. Speaking on the occassion, Jagan said that the people of the state are hoping for a corruption free delivery of services and all the appointees must bear this in mind that the main purpose of their job is service to the people.
The village secretariats will be providing 500 services from January 2020 and will work with an aim to ensure that the government schemes reach the beneficiaries within 72 hours.
