Relax code to brace up for Cyclone: Babu writes to EC

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to Election Commission of India on Wednesday requesting to relax code in the cyclone hit four districts of the State, so that he can review the situation and brace up the machinery to face the cyclone.

In the letter he mentioned about the cyclone Fani in Bay of Bengal that is travelling in North and Northeast direction and is affecting Northern coastal districts of AP. Babu mentioned that the cyclone may result in gales of speeds up to 200 kmph, and may affect the normal life of the people. He reminded the long coastline of AP and as well as the loss incurred by the state due to cyclones Hud Hud and Titli.

CM said that the state had the experience of using RTGC to forecast the effect of cyclones and it is clear that the Fani may cross the coast between AP and Odisha. He expressed concern that four districts East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam would be affected, so as to enable free flow of information and mobilisation of human and material resources, he observed the need for relaxation of model code of conduct.

As the assembly elections have been completed, CM Naidu requested the ECI to relax model code of conduct to enable Ministers to work effectively in concerned districts.
