Abdul Gani who was a former MLA in Rayalaseema with the TDP has now shifted to YSRCP in a major development in Andhra Pradesh. Abdul Gani had moved to YSRCP officially on Saturday.
This is the second such shift from TDP to YSRCP in the recent past after Pileru MLA Iqbal Ahmed also defected to YSRCP. Both are prominent Muslim leaders in the area and it is a big jolt to the Chandrababu government.
Abdul Gani has now joined Jagan in his Praja Sankalpa Yatra and accused TDP saying he was not given due respect for his work even after sacrificing his seat to Nandamuri Balakrishna who is now the MLA in Hindupur. He also accused TDP of not doing anything for the minorities in the region.
This defect by Abdul Gani could ruin TDP's chances in the region as Abdul was a close aide of N Balakrishna. Hindupur has traditionally been a TDP stronghold and has a decent Muslim population.
Earlier in the week, Prathipadu MLA Ravela Kishore Babu had moved from TDP to Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party alleging caste discrimination in the TDP.
Although shifting parties is very normal before elections with just six months remaining for elections in AP, prominent leaders moving out of TDP would be a cause of concern and has left TDP with a lot to ponder.
