Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi last evening, reiterating the demand of special category status to the state and fulfill other commitments made during the time of bifurcation and Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
The CM was accompanied by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy and a few other party members. Jagan expressed dissatisfaction over the damage done to AP’s finances and increased debt burden since bifurcation. Jagan also submitted a letter to the PM which consisted of various requests including, subsidies for setting up of industries in the state, GST and I-T exemption and 100% insurance premium reimbursement for about 10 years.
Describing the status of water crisis and drying up of rivers in the state, Jagan in the letter declared that a water grid has been planned to solve the water crisis by 2050. The water grid is anticipated to cost around Rs 60,000 crore, for which appropriate support was sought from the Centre. Support was also requested for setting up of the Kadapa Steel Plant in accordance with Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, and also for the construction of a port at Ramayapatam.
