One of the districts in which the opposition YSR Congress Party had hopes of getting majority seats is Prakasham. Even in the last elections, the party dominated this district in assembly constituencies.
Out of 12 assembly constituencies, YSRCP won six and TDP won only five seats. One seat was won by Amanchi Krishna Mohan, an independent from Chirala. Krishna Mohan alongside three YSRCP MLAs joined YSRCP after elections and TDP dominated the district with more number of elected representatives supporting it.
In the present elections, both parties fought tooth and nail to dominate the district in winning the more number of seats.
YSRCP fielded Adimulam Suresh from SC reserved constituency, Yerragondapalem. He won from Santanutalapadu last time. He worked as MLA in the past and that experience helped him to move in the constituency. TDP fielded Ajit Rao but locals say that YSRCP is strong in the constituency. The party got 19,000 votes majority last time and this time too the win is sure irrespective of majority increases or decreases.
In another constituency, Darsi, though TDP has sitting MLA, it fielded Kadiri Babu Rao, an outsider and damaged its chances on its own, says the local cadre of the party. Sidda Raghava Rao won from this constituency last time and is in Babu's cabinet. However, he was fielded from Ongole parliamentary constituency and cadre says that his supporters did not work wholeheartedly for Babu Rao. This could have worked in favour of Muddisetti Venugopal, the YSRCP candidate as the supporters of Sivaprasada Reddy the candidate of the party in the last elections supported him well. Hence, YSRCP has edge over TDP candidate due to unity in the party, unlike TDP.
The stakes of YSRCP are high in Paruchuru as high profile Daggubati Venkateswara Rao was fielded by the party. Though he has his own cadre and group in the constituency, the sitting MLA Eluri Sambasiva Rao earned a name to fight tough with Daggubati. The response of locals is neutral about the edge for the candidates and what worked out to be seen. But the delay in the campaign by Daggubati might have given an edge to TDP, say the field level cadre.
From Chirala, YSRCP fielded Amanchi Krishna Mohan who won here as an independent. He is a strong man in his constituency and is well versed in election strategies. TDP fielded Karanam Balaram to counter the popularity and strength of Amanchi Krishna Mohan, but it seems the fight is tough for both the candidates. However, locals favour YSRCP due to the presence of Amanchi Krishna Mohan.
