Godavari floods: AP on high alert as 17,000 shifted to safe areas


The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) released its preliminary report which stated that the Godavari floods in AP have caused damage to the extent of Rs 64,58,378 to the state. Roads and buildings were reported to have incurred the maximum damage said the report. 

A total of 52,500 persons from 32 villages in East Godavari district have been affected by the floods, while in West Godavari district, 21,568 persons from 39 villages were affected. A number of medical camps and relief camps have been set up in the West and East Godavari districts with 17,632 persons shifted to 32 relief camps in East Godavari.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rains in the next 48 hours in the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh. The officials have also said that the flood level is expected to rise further over the course of the next two days. The state government announced the distribution of 25 kg of rice and other essential commodities to the affected families. According to the report, 35,264 food packets have been distributed in East Godavari, while 36.004 MT (million tonnes) of rice were distributed in West Godavari
