'Fight back,' Naidu tells Vallabhaneni Vamsi

Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi's resignation as MLA has come in as a huge shock to an already weak TDP which currently has only 23 legislators in the assembly. In a letter addressed to Vamsi, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu has urged him to reconsider his resignation.

Vamsi had earlier stated that he was resigning due to YSRCP's vindictive politics. In a letter to party chief Naidu, Vamsi said that he intended to quit politics to safeguard" the public from friction between the two rival parties. The resignation comes in wake of a cheating case that was registered against the MLA last week.

"Let me reaffirm that you quitting politics will not stop the harassment and vindictive political actions unleashed by the YSRCP and their stooges in the government. I think resigning or quitting politics is no correct solution," wrote Naidu in the letter.

Naidu also assured his complete support along with that of TDP family for Vamsi. The former Chief Minister added that TDP had a moral responsibility to fight against the unconstitutional methods of YSRCP.

"We shall give representations to all constitutional authorities in this regard and ask for justice. We shall fight using all democratic means available to us, as per the constitution," Naidu's letter stated.

Incidentally, Vamsi met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy at the CM's residence last week, triggering speculation of him joining the ruling YSRCP. However, with his resignation, all the rumours have been put to rest.

Vamsi's resignation, if accepted by the speaker will bring down TDP's strength to 22 from an already low 23. YSRCP meanwhile has 151 seats in the 175 member legislative assembly along with 22 out of 25 MPs from Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha.
