At the National Dissemination Workshop on Ease of Living Index, 2018, Andhra Pradesh was declared as the top state in the country in terms of Ease of Living. Andhra Pradesh was followed by Odisha and Madhya Pradesh as the top 3 states under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
Union Housing and Urban Affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri while presenting the awards said that the Ease of Living Index was a transformative initiative of the Government of India which assessed the liveability of the cities and states as per global benchmarks.
Puri expressed confidence that such awards would encourage the cities as well as states to focus on urban planning in a manner which would enhance the liveability and overall experience of the citizen of those particular states.
The Ease of Living Index seeks to assist cities in undertaking a 360-degree assessment of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats”, he added.
Launched in 2015, Amrut aims at enhancing the living standards of citizen by creating better infrastructure and planning of the cities.
“Another highlight of the Ease of Living assessment standards is its close linkage with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Of the 17 SDG goals, 8 goals are directly linked to India’s ease of living assessment framework with SDG 11,” Puri added.
