Swiss writing instrument maker Caran d’Ache brought to India the most expensive pen that costs Rs 1.35 crore. William Penn, a Bangalore based retail store for luxury pens that has an exclusive tie-up with the Swiss brand said, “The pen sold under the name ‘La Modernista’ is by far the most expensive ever introduced in India.”

The hand crafted pen with a nib made of 18-carat-gold is considered to be the second most expensive pen in the world. At the top is German luxury pen maker Mont Blanc’s ‘Mystery Masterpiece’ that was sold at a whopping price of Rs 3 crore. Mont Blanc’s luxury pen costing Rs 11 lakhs dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi has been the most expensive pen in India until ‘La Modernista’ was launched.

Nikhil Ranjan, Chief Executing Officer of William Penn said, “There has been a lot of interest among pen collectors in India for luxury pens. Unlike the rest of the world, when high-end items are not doing well, the Indian market for luxury pen is growing.” He added, “We are opening another five stores in the metros taking the total number of stores to 15 across the country. We at William Penn believe that there is potential for luxury pens in India and we are definitely in expansion mode.”
